Chapter 9 Return Report

The instant I finally arrived at the Adventurer’s Guild, everybody turned to look at me in unison. 

[This is… more attention than I was expecting.]

The gazes that stood out that most were those of Nina-san, the guild receptionist, and Feydeau’s group. Nina-san came running to the entrance with a pitter-patter.

[Randall-san! And… is that Rei-chan? What’s with this strange atmosphere?]

Nina-san is a member of the cat beastman clan. She was beautiful and a popular receptionist who did her job well while usually staying cool, calm, and collected, but right now she was showing a flustered expression. Rei had stopped behind me, and she had briefly seen his peculiar form that disappeared just before the paw. However, she couldn’t detect any hostility coming from him, and started feeling my body all over. (TN: 後ろに控えていたレイの様子がおかしいのを見て一度は足を止めたが、敵意がないことがわかるとペタペタと俺の身体を触り出す)

[Thank goodness… it’s really you…. Your atmosphere has suddenly changed but… anyway please come with me. I haven’t heard what happened yet.]

I followed Nina-san as she led the way to the Guild reception desk. Feydeau and the others had been avoiding looking my way this entire time, but as I passed by in front of them, he finally called out.

[What…? How… are you alive?]

[After you left me to be killed, I defeated all five minotaurs.]

[That’s not possible…]

To the shocked Feydeau, I only said a few words.

[Rei’s dead.]

My partner was dead. Furthermore, I was meeting face-to-face with a companion who had played a big role in his life and death. I could feel my anger building, even if only in the slightest. 

[Oi, who cares about some damn mutt!]

The words coming out of Loig mouth were unacceptable, but I simply endured and made sure not to cause a scene. It would be useless to say anything to him. I choose to ignore that matter instead.

[I’m going to report about what happened to the Guild.]

[W-wait!]

[Oh, and after that, I’ll leave the party. That’s what we decided right?]

I don’t know what those four had reported, but I honestly doubt that they said they had used me as bait to escape. Considering the situation, they may have had no other choice, but it was definitely still poor handling of it all by the party. In the first place, you shouldn’t even enter a dungeon if there’s a chance someone doesn’t come out alive. You should be extremely careful, discussing how to protect the most vulnerable person while on the way to the dungeon. That’s why I would report everything to the guild, without worrying about it.

[Wait Randall!]

Feydeau tries to stop me in a rush, but I ignore him and prompt Nina-san to continue walking.

[Oi, you, wait a minute. What kinda attitude is that to be taking?]

[Loig had suddenly stood up and grabbed my arm.

[Don’t start acting all self-important you small fry! You’re just dead weight holding us back… oi! What’s with this strength!?]

Loig was surprised but I also had no idea where it had come from. Then, that voice echoed in my head once again.

I had gotten something amazing.

But why did I only get it after some time had already passed?

No well, it had already saved me from something troublesome so, oh well…

As expected, having an Extra Skill was enough. I wasn’t bothered even when it was Loig, the strongest one in the party. Far from it, it had become as easy as shaking him off whenever I felt like it.

Yep so getting this part out quicker didn’t exactly go to plan. I kinda just didn’t feel like doing any work the last couple days. That’s not to say I’m disinterested in translating already, just that sometimes there are games or anime or other novels that are calling my name. Sorry bout that. Anyway, hope you enjoy.
