S Ranked Burden Tamer (2)

Chapter 2 The Party’s Judgement (Part 1)

[Alright! Is it finally time for the god-slaying dungeon?]

[A dungeon where no one has set foot in until now. I’m feeling motivated.]

[May god’s blessings be upon us all…]

[…yeah. But does god even exist?]

[He exists in our hearts.]

I find myself excluded from the group as the other members all talk freely amongst themselves. The reason being…

[You’ll pay for it if you keep lagging behind! If you can’t carry that luggage anymore, you’ll lose your small place in this party without warning!]

[Randall… hurry it up. We can’t match your speed anymore.]

They say whatever they want while they push all their things onto me. Whatever. I motivate myself while patting Rei’s head. Rei is carrying more than half of it all…

[Let’s go then.]

[Don’t fall behind!]

I have to keep up even while being reproached.

The god-slaying dungeon. The mysterious dungeon that the S-ranked party has challenged and been defeated by up until now. A rumor of unknown origin says that the minotaur, a creature that boasts peerless strength, lives as the floor boss of the fifth floor. Even now Feydeau and the others have little room for error.

That observation was pretty much spot on. Immediately after entering the dungeon, fights that could force the party into a tough spot appeared one after another.

[Dammit! Why do monsters keep coming from the floor like this!?]

I had already moved to the front of the party to search for the enemy, but traps and monsters alike still got past me and attacked the party.

[Oi Randall! Stop fucking around and do your job!]

[That doesn’t matter anymore!]

[…nnn… it’s already troublesome.]

My eyes met Feydeau’s while the other three continued to fight.

[Randall… Don’t admit defeat. It’s fine, just continue reporting what you see to us.]

[Ahh, that’s… my bad.]

I say as much before going ahead with Rei. Of course, I was doing my job. In the first place if I think about it, Rei and I are safe up at the front of the party knowing that those behind us won’t struggle in these fights. In the current situation, we need to realize that the perils of the dungeon can come from all around us, but Feydeau who is becoming more stressed with me by the minute won’t recognize it. With that being the case, it would be better for me to focus on searching for traps.

[Shit…! You’re not even useful to that degree…]

[Calm down Loig. Still… if I think about it a little, things are definitely not going well…]

I hear the criticisms of the two people behind me as I move further into the dungeon. After that there were still a few times where a monster or a trap managed to make it past me, but I think I managed to destroy most of them before that happened. However, this effort was not conveyed to my party member’s behind me….

[Useless to the end! Shit!]

[Now, now… Randall-san was trying his best as well…]

Even with Quella’s nice words, the party was still unhappy. Well, whatever. It was finally time to take on the floor boss.

[Alright. From here on let’s change our formation.]

I step back behind them when I hear Feydeau’s voice while Loig moves to the front of the party for the fight this time. As such, it was time for Loig to taunt the enemy into concentrating their attacks on him rather than me playing that role.

[Loig do the usual while Mayle prepares an attack.]

[Aye! Leave it to me! I’ll show you how to be at the vanguard!]

Loig exclaimed as he unabashedly looked my way as if to provoke me.

[I’m ready to fight! Quella, back me up!]

[Understood!]

[Alright, let’s go!]

Feydeau and the others step into the floor boss’s room without calling out to me.

[Shall we go? Rei.]

[Awooooooooooo]

[Aghh! Shut it!]

It appears we weren’t even allowed to get ourselves motivated.

  1. Thanks for the chapter!
Typical arrogant lazy asses. Dump everything on MC, refuse to do anything actually constructive or helpful, and yet still blame him for being slow due to all the weight and pester him to speed up. You’d think an S class party would have the battle sense to realize can’t sense or predict where enemies are ahead of time if they suddenly pop out of the wall or floor and change formation to handle it rather than keep using a formation that know doesn’t work and think dumping blame on MC will improve things and more important than coming up with working solutions. Loig in particular. Wonder if that guy really insecure and realizes is completely incompetent to do anything other than act as a vanguard and swing his sword so worried if doesn’t make MC look bad he’ll be the one booted? Instead of rushing the guy making maps, scouting, finding and disarming traps should learn how to do some of the stuff himself to raise chances of seeing something MC missed rather than bullying the MC or trying to provoke a fight knowing MC doesn’t have a chance to win. Especially in a dungeon known as god slaying which means mortals like themselves should be extra careful rather than stupidly assuming can handle anything or that their rank means they’re more invincible than the gods who died giving the dungeon it’s name. For example, rather than going into a room without the full party or getting some intel first is foolish, especially against a high rank monster like a minotaur. Since it’s a god killing dungeon the minotaur might be different from other minotaurs in that it might have a special ability like a fast powerful charge or paralyzing roar, a weapon and/or armor made of high class materials with buffs, or can summon subordinates if don’t have some there already. Considering how many mistakes these guys are making I’m beginning to wonder if the MC is really talented for covering their flaws and/or somehow managed to power through previous accomplishments in a short time without having to deal with long term jobs away from civilization.
